"Summer Field"
12 X 24" Oil on Canvas
I've been doing other art related things keeping me away from painting so it was time to jump back at the easel. Yesterday I finished building a French Companion for my French easel and I painted this one to try out the French Companion. Works great and it's nice having the added room when using the French easel.
I started this one out trying a darker sky...sort of a slate grey. It really popped those pink mountains and gave it the look of when the sun starts coming out at the end of as storm. I called it quits, went inside to eat dinner and when I came back I decided to lighten the sky. I hate messing with the sky once a painting is done but that "after the storm" look was a little intense. Ya had to be there.
Anyway....good painting to get back to the brushes with.

Well, I like the way it turned out, so I guess the change in the sky was a GOOD thing! Now, how about pictures of the Companion? I have a metal shelf (right side) for mine and I find it very helpful. More room to spread out. I'm fascinated by the idea of your custom made French Companion.
Hi Dianne,
Thanks for the comments on the painting...fun one it was. I've just posted the FC build. Very easy to make.
Oh my, this is a beautiful painting, I love the soft light and the way you have treated the foreground (always a difficult area for me)!
Hi Rolina,
Yep, foregrounds can be daunting at times. I'm still working on adding better detail to my foregrounds...you know painting, one lesson after another. Thanks Rolina.
Hi Ron, I came across this by accident and looked into the boxes the FM & FC. The prices I was like shocked at what they charge in UK. So I have started to build my own from scratch and getting the dimensions of line. I'm in the process of starting building. Just cut all the frame for both. Over next few days it's assemble the frame work and then cut the plywood for each compartment. Then sand stain and varnish add the hinges handles and toggle latches and the tempered glass which is going be 4mm.im enjoying the challenge and cut using mitred corners, just got a thing about butt joints.
