"Foxen Canyon Oaks"
18" X 36" Oil on Canvas
Once again we had storms over the valley this Spring bringing much needed rain and my favorite, cool looking clouds once the storm begins to pass. I headed up to Foxen Canyon Road one afternoon as a storm began to blow out of the valley to get some reference photos. My favorite spot overlooks both the Firestone Winery and the Chamberlin Ranch on either side of the road. I don't paint there much because it is a wind tunnel a lot of times....major wind so I just take reference photos there. This scene has been painted by me in probably 5 or 6 paintings over the years. It is looking south towards the Santa Ynez mountains seperating our valley from Santa Barbara and the big Pacific ocean.

Glad you're back. That's so big and wonderful! You had room to work and it was worth it. Really beautiful!

Thanks Dianne. Working on a large canvas made it easier to try new things like the grass treatments and working more into the clouds. Thanks for the comments!

beautiful piece, ron.

i love the composition! the foreground and background balance is really nice and there is a peaceful quality that compliments all your technical ability.

sorry to hear of your difficulties. we all deal with difficult things in our lives, but how we deal with them makes us who we are. glad you are back on track.

Hi William,
Thanks a lot for the good words. Trying to get back in gear has taken a lot longer than I thought it would. Seems like it became one thing after another but I'm almost finished with another painting which is now coming together. I'm thinking things are changing for the better.

Thanks for the comments on the painting William, I really appreciate it.
