Spring In The Valley

" Spring In The Valley"
9" X 12" Oil on canvas
More work using a lot of the premixed colors from the previous painting that were still on my palette. I keep my palette in a refridgerator when I'm not painting so whatever colors are there, mixed or not, stay fresh for days. I've got plenty of mud from previous paintings kept in a jar for mixing greys so the fridge keeps me from wasting a lot of paint.

Hi Ron, this is so beautiful. Do you cover your palette when it's in the fridge? I wonder if the fridge would stop Liquin form hardening...
Hey, mud on toast.... doesn't sound as nice as eggs on toast(lol)...

Hi Maggie,
I never thought to cover the palette. I just slide it in there on top of milk cartons, coke cans or an empty shelf when that's available....and with this economy it is usually available! hahaha.

I would think it would totally slow down the liquin from drying so fast. I use Liquin and Alkyd painting medium sometimes and it's mixed in the paints. Mostly I use Copal mixed in and the paints are all still workable the next day...if it's thick enough blobs of paint it will still work even after a few days. Raw paint will last 3 or 4 days or longer.

My normal way of working is usually 2 days to do most paintings and then maybe skip a day or two and then back to the next painting...whatever is on that palette is usually still usable if it was in the fridge.

Mud on toast, hmmm. That would look like grey peanut butter. I'll pass on that one Maggie, hahaha.
Thanks Maggie.

Ron.. Another wonderful piece of work... I'm excited to get back home and see if I can find the spring flowers.... Where is this??

Hi Marian,
This one was just out of my head so there is no real location. It's elements are from around here though...the background mountains are the ones I paint all of the time just south of us. The oak is typical of the ones here in the valley and the poppies well they are soon to be everywhere.

We have a lot of them popping up along the highway and coming up on the hillsides now...lupine is right along with them. This is going to be a great spring to be painting flowers.

I've got a friend who lives near Bakersfield who is going to take pics of the poppies near Bear mountain and maybe up in Tehachapi today.
Thanks Marian.
