Moonrise Near Foxen Canyon

"Moonrise Near Foxen Canyon"
16" X 20" Oil on canvas
I wanted a good sky and am working with these colors lately until I feel comfortable with the results. I wanted a good evening sky, close to twilight, and then decided to throw that moon in there. I had a brighter more intense moon but decided to back it off to look more like an early moonrise where it's value is closer to the sky surrounding it. A very pale moon since there is still a lot of daylight left. I'm pretty happy with the results.
A couple of details of the painting....

I adore this new series of paintings, Ron. Love the colours and comps. You are an inspiration. I can't believe you use that crud at the bottom of the turps jar...yuk!!!! I'm struggling with trying to paint in oil at the moment. I loved it at first, but seem to be in a huge downward spiral right now...I don't need the turps jar as I have a lot of mud on my boards right now (lol)....

Hi Maggie,
I can't think of an artist I know who doesn't find painting as a struggle at one time or another. If it was easy we'd either be not trying too hard or boring....or both. Good for you for pushing yourself and your limits.

All of that extra paint you have left over on your palette can be mixed together to make a grey too...just mix it and put it into a sealed container like those old 35mm film containers. Saves the artist a few bucks.

Thank so much for the kind words Maggie...it really means a lot!
